MASH Sustainable Purchasing Conference Oct. 3, 2012

The conference is designed for municipalities, academia, schools and hospitals (MASH sector) in order to accelerate learning about the importance of sustainable purchasing choices. The conference will provide tools and information to help reduce environmental impacts, electricity consumption, and will highlight how to include sustainability in procurement

Conference Date: Wednesday, October 3^rd, 2012 – 8:30 – 3:30pm

Conference Location: Student Union Building (SUB), Dalhousie University, 6136 University Avenue, Halifax. NS.. McIness Room for main conference session and trade show, Room 307 and 224/226 for breakout.

Participant Registration: Free for participants! Refreshments and lunch are provided. It is easy to register. Just email rethink@dal.ca your name, organization, email, role, and phone number to register.

Participant Target Audience: MASH Sector Purchasers, Sustainability and Facilities Management staff, government representatives, businesses. Two or more from an organization are welcome so they can participate in all workshops. Attendance Target: 70-90

Atlantic Campus Climate Challenge (C3) planned for January 2012

Again this year universities and colleges in Atlantic Canada will compete to raise awareness about climate change and reduce energy consumption on their campuses. The C3 Challenge began in 2008 at Mount Allison University and in 2010 spread to other maritime campuses. This student-run competition involves a variety of fun events and activities designed to engage students and reduce energy. Events such as fastest shower, residence energy reduction competition, photo challenge and sweater fashion show help raise awareness and involve actions that make a difference on each campus. New Transportation Demand Management Report from ACT Canada

Priority needs identified include an information portal, alliance list-serve, webinars, continued information sharing, and a post-secondary focus at the TDM Summit. Read the full report. Youth Transportation Conference

From July 8–10, 2011, youth from across the Atlantic Provinces will come together in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for a sustainable transportation conference entitled ‘Making the Connection: From Rural to Urban Transportation.’ The objective of this summit is to engage students and young professionals in a dialogue about the importance of sustainable transportation options for growing communities in the Region, from the urban core to developing suburban and rural areas. It is hoped that this summit will interest and inspire attendees to become future advocates and authorities in sustainable transportation issues.
